Hamas Senior Official Evades Responsibility for October 7 Atrocities in Confrontational Interview

In a tense interview with British journalist Piers Morgan, senior Hamas official Aazi Hamad was confronted about the brutal attacks carried out by Hamas on October 7, 2023. Morgan pressed Hamad on his previous statement that Hamas would "do it again and again," challenging him on the organization’s responsibility for war crimes, including the killing of civilians and the kidnapping of infants. Hamad denied that Hamas committed crimes against humanity, cynically suggesting that "maybe some mistakes happened," and insisted there were no orders to kill civilians.

Morgan repeatedly rejected Hamad’s denials, emphasizing the massacre of innocent civilians across Israel, the abduction of over 250 hostages including Holocaust survivors and babies, and the deliberate targeting of young people at a music festival. Morgan accused Hamas of crossing every moral and human boundary, highlighting that Hamas militants themselves posted videos of the atrocities in real time. Despite Morgan’s criticism of Israel’s response in Gaza, he maintained that Hamas bears full responsibility for the October 7 attacks.

When Hamad questioned why Morgan labeled Hamas a terrorist organization, Morgan responded that the horrific acts committed on October 7 clearly define Hamas as such. Hamad also denied that Hamas planned to take civilians hostage or had directives to do so, but Morgan pressed him on why hostages were taken if that was true.

Aazi Hamad survived an Israeli assassination attempt in Doha in September 2023 targeting Hamas leadership. His public appearance in the Al Jazeera interview confirmed his survival. The interview underscored the ongoing international scrutiny and condemnation of Hamas’s actions during the October 7 massacre and the challenges Hamas faces in publicly addressing these accusations.
