Investigation Finds Children Playing With Fire Caused Supermarket Blaze in Beit Shemesh

Fire investigators from the Jerusalem district have concluded their probe into the supermarket fire that broke out two and a half weeks ago in the Ramat Beit Shemesh neighborhood. The fire started on the ground floor of an eight-story residential building, where the supermarket is located. According to the investigation, the blaze was caused by children playing with open fire inside one of the supermarket's rooms while it was open for business.

Firefighters managed to control the fire and prevent it from spreading to the residential apartments above, and thankfully, no injuries were reported. The investigation also revealed that the supermarket was operating without a fire safety permit from the Israel Fire and Rescue Services. This lack of compliance meant there were no fire detection or suppression systems in place, which could have prevented the fire from spreading.

The Israel Fire and Rescue Services emphasized the critical importance of adhering to fire safety regulations to protect lives and property. They also urged parents to educate their children about the dangers of playing with fire and to keep ignition sources out of their reach.
