Children Playing With Fire Causes Supermarket Blaze in Beit Shemesh

The Jerusalem Fire and Rescue Department concluded its investigation into a fire that broke out on July 19 at a supermarket in Beit Shemesh. The fire was caused by children playing with open flames inside one of the supermarket's rooms while the store was open and operating normally. The supermarket is located on the ground floor of an eight-story residential building. Firefighters managed to control the blaze and prevent it from spreading to the residential apartments above. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The investigation also revealed that the supermarket operated without a fire safety permit and lacked fire detection and suppression systems, which could have prevented the fire from spreading and reduced the damage. Fire and Rescue officials emphasized that many businesses and buildings fail to meet fire safety requirements, which are essential for protecting lives and property. They urged parents to educate their children about the dangers of playing with fire and to keep ignition sources out of their reach, warning that the combination of such play and inadequate safety measures can lead to disasters.
