Two Men from Shfaram Indicted for Shooting in Mosque Over Financial Dispute with Imam

The Haifa District Prosecutor's Office has filed indictments against Abd al-Fattah Azzam, 47, and Muhammad Jowaid, 32, both residents of Shfaram, for weapons offenses related to a shooting inside a mosque in the city. According to the indictment, Azzam fired a handgun inside the mosque on July 1, 2026, motivated by a financial dispute with the mosque's imam. He was also armed with a sword during the incident.

After the shooting, Azzam met with Jowaid, who assisted him in fleeing the scene by helping to hide the handgun and sword in a nearby grove. During their escape, they nearly collided with a police officer. Azzam faces charges of discharging a firearm in a residence and obstruction of justice, while Jowaid is charged with aiding after the fact and interfering with a police officer in the performance of duty.

The case is now before the Haifa District Court, where the prosecution seeks to hold both men accountable for their roles in the violent incident and subsequent escape efforts.
