Bank of Jerusalem Donates Hundreds of Thousands to Rebuild Soroka Medical Center After Iranian Missile Strike

One year after an Iranian missile directly struck Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba, Bank of Jerusalem announced a donation of several hundred thousand shekels to support the construction of a new rehabilitation center at the hospital. The missile attack in June last year severely damaged the northern surgical inpatient building, which housed the rehabilitation department, forcing its closure along with other medical services and nearby buildings that remain partly unusable due to blast damage.

The new rehabilitation center will include inpatient rehabilitation services for children and aims to restore and significantly expand rehabilitation care for southern Israel residents. Bank of Jerusalem CEO Yair Kaplan visited Soroka and met with hospital director Professor Shlomi Codish to review recovery efforts. Kaplan emphasized the importance of healthcare in the Negev and the bank’s commitment to supporting the urgent need for an alternative rehabilitation facility.

Professor Codish expressed gratitude for the donation, highlighting that the new center will double inpatient rehabilitation capacity in the south and provide critical services to the community. He called the partnership a meaningful example of mutual responsibility and dedication to strengthening southern Israel’s healthcare system. The rehabilitation center is part of Soroka’s broader recovery from one of the most severe healthcare system attacks Israel has faced during the conflict with Iran. The hospital also hopes the expanded services will meet growing rehabilitation demands following recent terror attacks in the region.
