Chef Asaf Granit Launches New Jerusalem Shawarma Spot 'De Pita'
Israeli chef Asaf Granit is opening a new shawarma restaurant called "De Pita" in Jerusalem's Mahane Yehuda market area. The new venue will serve authentic Jerusalem-style shawarma with a creative twist from Granit's Machneyuda team, promising unconventional flavors. "De Pita" will feature two types of shawarma, veal and chicken thigh, cooked on traditional vertical spits over glowing coals to impart a smoky grilled aroma.
The restaurant is located at 3 Dekel Street, near Granit's skewer-focused steakhouse "Stekiya," which recently received mixed reviews. The shawarma will be served in soft pita bread with classic accompaniments such as tahini, fresh herbs, and amba, alongside various shawarma salads. The opening is scheduled for this Thursday.
This launch follows a turbulent period for Granit, marked by organizational changes and allegations of employee poaching. It also comes shortly after the announcement of his new gelato shop opening soon in Paris. "De Pita" aims to offer a fresh, flavorful take on a beloved Israeli dish in a vibrant Jerusalem location.
