Man in His 70s Critically Injured in Ashdod Apartment Fire

Firefighters rescued a man in his 70s from a severe fire that broke out overnight between Monday and Tuesday in an apartment on Palmach Street in Ashdod. The man was found unconscious and suffering from heavy smoke inhalation. Paramedics from Magen David Adom (MDA) performed prolonged resuscitation efforts at the scene before transporting him in critical condition to Assuta Hospital in Ashdod.

The fire erupted in a first-floor apartment of a four-story building. Firefighters entered the apartment, conducted searches, and evacuated the trapped individual. They also worked to extinguish the flames, search for additional victims, and ventilate the building. The fire was reported to MDA's 101 emergency center in the Lachish region at 03:53.

MDA paramedics Avraham Fromer and Chaim Gitler described seeing thick black smoke rising from the building's first floor. They joined forces with firefighters to rescue the man, who was found without pulse or breathing due to severe smoke inhalation. They provided advanced medical treatment including extended resuscitation before rushing him to the hospital, where his condition remains critical. The incident was first reported at 05:37 on August 4, 2026.
