Israeli Attorney General to Decide on Prosecuting Left-Wing MK for Leaking Classified Security Committee Protocols

The Israeli Attorney General is expected to decide in the coming weeks whether to prosecute Knesset member Gilad Kariv from the left-wing bloc. Kariv was investigated under caution on suspicion of leaking classified information from a June 13, 2023, security briefing given by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee. The leak allegedly involved details from that classified discussion being passed to a journalist.

The investigation was initiated following a review conducted by an appointed parliamentary officer, who summoned witnesses, examined security camera footage, and collected relevant evidence. Findings showed Kariv was the only person to access the protocol of the classified meeting, reviewing it twice and marking sections with a highlighter. These highlighted parts later appeared in the media publication.

The committee chairman confirmed that the protocol copy Kariv accessed was the sole version and was originally provided without any markings. Kariv was questioned in April 2025 by the National Fraud Investigation Unit (Lahav 433). More than a year has passed since the interrogation, but no decision has yet been made regarding indictment.

Legal sources now indicate that the Attorney General will soon determine whether the evidence warrants prosecuting Kariv or closing the case without charges. At this stage, these remain allegations without a formal legal ruling.
