Austrian and Swiss Authorities Warn Ultra-Orthodox Israeli Tourists Over Rule Violations

Authorities in Austria and Switzerland have issued warnings to ultra-Orthodox Israeli tourists for disregarding local laws and causing disturbances at popular vacation spots. In Austria, police and tourism advisors, including Dudi Rubenstein, alerted the community following complaints from the mayor of Ischgl about damage and littering at a mini-golf facility. Rubenstein reported that trash was scattered, restrooms were clogged, and children threw sand onto the mini-golf courses, prompting concerns of desecration and threats to close the site if behavior does not improve. The Jewish community in Austria emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness and respect to avoid harming their reputation.

Similarly, in Switzerland, community activist Menachem Deutsch released a trilingual video message in Swiss German, Yiddish, and Hebrew to ultra-Orthodox visitors at Saas-Fee, urging them to respect local regulations. He appeared alongside a local police officer who also warned about inappropriate conduct by Israeli tourists. Rubenstein cautioned that continued misconduct could lead to the closure of sites frequented by ultra-Orthodox visitors and landlords refusing to rent to them, which might then be misinterpreted as antisemitism. He stressed the need for tourists to remember they are guests and to behave responsibly to protect their community's standing abroad.
