Swiss Hotel Closes Pool for Disinfection After Jewish Guests Swim, Sparks Outrage

An Israeli family vacationing in a Swiss apartment complex in Davos was shocked when the hotel staff posted a sign stating the pool was closed for disinfection due to the presence of "Jewish guests" swimming in it. Dudi, the father, explained that his wife, who wears a modest long swimsuit typical among religious women, was asked to leave the pool shortly after entering. The next day, the hotel posted a notice apologizing for the inconvenience but explicitly mentioning the need to disinfect the pool because "Jewish guests" had entered wearing everyday clothes rather than swimwear.

The family was deeply offended by the sign's wording, questioning why their Jewish identity was singled out and whether the hotel would have labeled Muslim or Christian guests similarly. The hotel claimed that entering the pool in regular clothes violated hygiene rules, but the family insisted the modest swimsuit was widely accepted internationally and had never caused issues before. The wife complied immediately when asked to leave without argument.

The notice, written in German and dated July 7, stated that enhanced chlorine treatment would last until Friday evening or Saturday morning to restore water quality. After leaving the hotel, the family was further shocked when asked to pay for the disinfection process and pool closure days. Dudi refused to pay, condemning the humiliating sign and the demand for payment. He sent a strong protest message to the hotel and is awaiting their response.
