Smotrich and Struck Demand New Vote on International Peace Council Entry to Gaza

Ministers Bezalel Smotrich and Orit Struck from the Religious Zionism party opposed the unanimous decision by Israel's Security Cabinet to allow the International Peace Council, established under President Trump's initiative, to enter the Gaza Strip. They claimed they were presented with incorrect facts and are demanding an immediate new decision. Last Sunday, the cabinet approved the council's entry into Gaza, with only Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir dissenting.

A political source explained that the approval aligns with Trump's 20-point plan, which facilitated the release of hostages. Israel insists that the IDF will maintain its position along the "yellow line" and will not withdraw until Hamas is fully disarmed and Gaza is demilitarized. Initially, about 200 representatives from friendly countries such as Uganda and Morocco will be involved.

The cabinet also granted immunity under the "Immunities for International Organizations" law to the International Stabilization Force (ISF), which will operate in full coordination with the IDF beyond the yellow line in areas not under Israeli control. Any deployment of ISF forces requires specific approval from the Prime Minister, Defense Minister, and Foreign Minister. Only countries with peace agreements with Israel and that do not act against Israel or its officials internationally are permitted to send forces.
