IDF Launches New Academic Track for Haredi Recruits in Military Intelligence

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has inaugurated a dedicated academic and military track aimed at integrating Haredi (ultra-Orthodox) recruits into its elite technological units, particularly within the Military Intelligence Directorate (AMAN). This initiative is managed by the Atidim program, a military-civilian collaboration focused on identifying, selecting, and guiding candidates from peripheral and special populations into academic and technological service tracks in the IDF.

As part of the "Pa'amei Atidim" program, dozens of Haredi students and other minority groups will begin studying for an engineering technician degree at the Ariel College of Engineering and Ariel University before their enlistment. Upon joining the IDF, they will serve in top technological units within AMAN and complete a full academic engineering degree during their military service.

A senior military official described the program as a groundbreaking step that opens opportunities previously inaccessible to the Haredi community, combining higher education in engineering and technology with tailored service conditions. The opening ceremony featured key figures including Dr. Yocheved Pinchasi-Adib, CEO of the Ariel College of Engineering, Lt. Col. Peleg, head of the Atidim program, and the head of the Haredi division within Atidim.

Lt. Col. Peleg emphasized the importance of diverse perspectives in intelligence and technological work, stating that the program enables talented individuals from all sectors of Israeli society to contribute meaningfully while balancing their lifestyle needs. He highlighted that integrating quality candidates from Israel's social mosaic strengthens the IDF's professional capabilities and benefits the entire country.

This new track reflects the IDF's recognition of the Haredi community's potential and its commitment to expanding inclusion in critical technological roles within the military.
