Israel Voices Concerns to US Over Hamas Disarmament Plan Following Trump Announcement

Following President Donald Trump's announcement of an agreement to fully disarm Hamas and other armed groups in the Gaza Strip, Israel has expressed concerns to the United States regarding the disarmament plan. The agreement, described by Trump as a critical step toward transferring governance of Gaza to a new Palestinian government cooperating closely with the peace council, aims to ensure that Gaza no longer serves as a base for terrorist attacks against Israel.

Despite the announcement, Hamas continues to set additional conditions for the disarmament to proceed. Senior Hamas official Aazi Hamad told Al-Arabiya that the agreement involves "storage" of weapons under the Palestinian National Committee's supervision rather than full disarmament, without providing further details. Hamas also conditions handing over weapons on a cessation of Israeli attacks and the withdrawal of Israeli Defense Forces from Gaza.

A spokesperson for the Israeli Prime Minister conveyed to Reuters that Israel remains worried about the feasibility and implications of the disarmament plan. The ongoing demands from Hamas highlight the complexities involved in implementing the agreement and the challenges ahead in achieving lasting security and governance arrangements in Gaza.
