Iran and Oman Make Progress on Strait of Hormuz Talks While Nuclear Issues Remain Unclear

Regional sources report ongoing progress in negotiations between Iran and Oman regarding passage through the Strait of Hormuz, with a further concession from Oman potentially leading to an agreement soon. Israeli sources indicate that if these talks advance, other key issues, particularly Iran's nuclear program and uranium stockpiles, will remain ambiguous, with no clarity on whether negotiations on these topics will proceed.

Earlier on Sunday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated in a government meeting that the discussions with Oman about the Strait of Hormuz are in their final stages before an agreement is reached. Last week, the Wall Street Journal reported that Iran and Oman are discussing a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Oman has proposed establishing a regional framework to oversee maritime security, funded by regional countries and maritime and oil transport industries.

According to the report, Iran has considered Oman's proposal but insists on controlling the strait and collecting tolls, which conflicts with Oman's and the United States' positions. Additionally, mediators are currently working to secure a ten-day ceasefire that would include reopening the strait and lifting the U.S. blockade on Iranian ports.
