Body Found Near Iran Team Training Camp in Tijuana Raises Security Concerns
A body was discovered near the Iranian national team’s training and lodging compound in Tijuana, Mexico, while the World Cup was getting underway, according to reports. The find immediately prompted concern inside the squad about security around the team’s base.
Mexican police reportedly found the corpse in the trunk of a car near the stadium where Iran was training. The vehicle had California license plates and was parked right by a nearby grocery store, only a few meters from the training complex.
The body was described as already in a state of decomposition, wrapped in a black plastic bag and showing signs of assault. The article said the discovery happened during Iran’s practice session, and the team left the site only minutes later.
The report said Iran is now dealing with security worries about its location in Tijuana, one of Mexico’s most dangerous cities. The city recorded more than 1,200 homicides in 2025.
