Iran Claims Drone Attack on US Base in Kuwait Amid Rising Tensions

The Iranian military claimed on Friday morning that it launched drone strikes targeting US military assets in Kuwait. According to Iran's statement, the strikes hit shelters for fighter jets, satellite communication systems, and equipment storage facilities at the Ahmad al-Jaber Air Base. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) has not responded to these claims, and no American attacks were reported overnight. Kuwaiti state media have yet to confirm any damage from the alleged Iranian strike.

Iran described the attack as retaliation for recent US military aggression, specifically referencing a harsh American strike on Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian media reported that three members of one family were killed in the US attack on Qeshm Island, which marked the first American strike on Iran in six days. CENTCOM characterized the US action as a strong response to Iranian attempts to target US forces in the Middle East.

Following the drone attack claims, Iran reportedly launched five missiles toward Jordan, all of which Jordan said were intercepted. Meanwhile, Pakistan, acting as a mediator between Washington and Tehran, announced ongoing negotiations and efforts to return both sides to the Islamabad memorandum of understanding signed in mid-June.

In a related development, Saudi Arabia announced that 14 countries have supported its proposal to form a maritime defense alliance to protect international shipping routes and global trade, amid the near halt of vessel traffic through the Strait of Hormuz due to the US-Iran conflict.
