Maccabi Tel Aviv Considers NBA Dunk Champion Mac McClung as Potential Replacement for Loni Walker

Spanish basketball journalists Gerard Sola and Sergio Vegas have suggested that Maccabi Tel Aviv might pursue Mac McClung, a three-time consecutive NBA Slam Dunk Contest champion, as a potential replacement for guard Loni Walker. Vegas noted that if Maccabi loses Walker, signing McClung could be a logical move, though he expressed uncertainty about McClung's willingness to join the team. Sola added that McClung would be a great fit for Israeli basketball, particularly for Hapoel Tel Aviv, and could become a major EuroLeague star.

Mac McClung, 27 years old and 1.88 meters tall, gained global recognition for his spectacular dunk contest performances but struggled to secure a stable role in the NBA. Over his career, he has appeared in only 17 NBA games across five teams, including eight games last season with the Chicago Bulls. This limited opportunity has led him to seriously consider playing in Europe.

In the NBA G League, McClung was twice named MVP, most recently with the Windy City Bulls, where he became the league's all-time leading scorer. He averaged 29.5 points, 7.6 assists, and 5.4 rebounds per game, highlighted by a career-best 59-point performance. EuroLeague teams are reportedly evaluating his potential impact for the upcoming season.
