Jerusalem Municipality Warns of Fraudulent Payment Demands Using Fake Documents

The Jerusalem Municipality and the water and sewage company Hagihon have issued warnings about a recent wave of fraud attempts involving fake payment demands sent to residents and various entities. These fraudulent documents impersonate official representatives and include authentic-looking logos, project details, and other data to create a false impression of legitimacy and trick recipients into transferring money to the scammers' accounts.

Both the municipality and Hagihon emphasized that payments should only be made after verifying the payment request with the official professional body and that funds must be transferred exclusively to the official bank accounts of these organizations. They also stressed that any changes in bank account details or unusual payment requests require immediate verification, and personal information or transfers should not be made based on suspicious messages or documents.

The matter has been handed over to the Israel Police and enforcement authorities, with the municipality and its security department cooperating to prevent further incidents. Authorities urge the public to remain highly vigilant, avoid transferring money if there is any suspicion, contact official service centers immediately, and report any suspicious activity to the police.
