Parents in Petah Tikva Threaten School Strike Over Murder Suspect Attending Local High School

Parents of high school students in Petah Tikva have threatened to strike and halt classes if a murder suspect, involved in the killing of Yamno Zalaka, attends their school. The suspect, a minor currently under house arrest, is set to enter 10th grade at the high school that naturally follows his middle school. He will be required to wear an electronic ankle monitor and be accompanied by a probation officer while at school. The parents' committee launched a campaign opposing his enrollment and appealed to the Ministry of Education and the Petah Tikva municipality, arguing that the suspect should attend a school for juvenile offenders rather than a regular high school.

Yamno Zalaka was murdered on the eve of Israel's Independence Day. The main suspect faces charges of murder under aggravating circumstances, with additional suspects charged with joint murder and other serious assault offenses. During the investigation, 19 minors from the Sharon region were arrested on suspicion of involvement in the attack leading to the murder. Some suspects attempted to flee or hide, and further arrests were made for aiding and obstructing the investigation. The suspect will remain under house arrest as the legal process continues.
