Yaela David Invites Public to See Brother Avitar Beyond Captivity Image on Special TV Program

Yaela David, sister of Israeli captive survivor Avitar David, shared an emotional post ahead of a special broadcast of the investigative program 'Uvda' on Keshet 12, airing Thursday evening. She urged the public to get to know her brother beyond the harrowing image etched in collective memory from his captivity. Avitar was abducted from a party in Nova on October 7, alongside his friend Guy Gelboim Dalal, and was held captive for over two years in Hamas tunnels before his release. A year ago, a disturbing video showing his starvation in captivity became a symbol of the suffering endured by hostages.

Yaela described the filming process for the upcoming episode, which began months ago when Avitar was still emotionally closed off. She noted it was the first time he faced a camera and emphasized the privilege of hearing him recount his ordeal over long hours. Avitar returned home to Kfar Saba about nine months ago after treatment at Beilinson Hospital, where hundreds of residents welcomed him with Israeli flags and greeting signs. Despite the time passed, Yaela stressed that Avitar's recovery remains a long journey and that the trauma will leave a permanent scar.

She highlighted Avitar's private nature and mental challenges in sharing such painful experiences but said his determination to reveal the truth about the tunnels is stronger than anything else. Yaela invited viewers to watch the program, promising they will connect deeply with Avitar as he finally speaks for himself. The special episode will allow the public to see Avitar as a whole person, beyond the distressing images from captivity that have dominated public perception.
