Antisemitic Incidents Surge 136% Globally in 2025, ADL Reports Deadliest Year Since 1994

In 2025, antisemitic incidents worldwide rose sharply by 136%, accompanied by a 97% increase in antisemitic violence, according to a new report released by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) on Wednesday. The year marked the deadliest for Jewish communities in the diaspora since the 1994 bombing of the Jewish community center in Argentina, with 20 people killed in antisemitic attacks across the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia.

While some countries including the US, Australia, Canada, and France saw a decline in the number of incidents, all G7 nations recorded figures significantly higher than before October 7. Australia experienced the steepest rise since 2021, with a 270% increase, followed by Germany at 215%, the US at 131%, and France at 124%. Germany continues to have the highest rate of incidents relative to its Jewish population, with nearly 70 incidents per 1,000 Jews. Australia also reported a 246% surge in antisemitic events since October 7.

The ADL's May report highlighted 2025 as one of the most violent years for Jews in the US, noting record levels of physical assaults and deadly antisemitic attacks resulting in fatalities for the first time since 2022, and Jewish deaths for the first time since 2019. On International Holocaust Remembrance Day earlier this year, the ADL revealed that approximately 46% of the global population holds some form of antisemitic beliefs. Additionally, 78% of Jewish students worldwide reported concealing their Jewish identity due to fear of harm, exclusion, or harassment.
