Antisemitic Attacks Surge 82% in UK First Half of 2026, CST Reports

The UK recorded 1,926 antisemitic incidents in the first half of 2026, marking a 21% increase compared to the same period in 2025, according to a new report by the Community Security Trust (CST). This averages to 321 incidents per month, nearly double the number before the October 7, 2023 attacks. Physical assaults saw the sharpest rise, with 135 attacks documented, an 82% increase from last year. Incidents in schools rose by 59% to 178, while those involving synagogues increased by 31%.

Among the severe cases highlighted was the stabbing of two Haredi men in Golders Green, London, on April 29, which triggered 71 additional antisemitic incidents in the following three days. The report also noted a series of arson attacks targeting synagogues and Jewish community properties in London, including the burning of ambulances belonging to a rescue organization. Some of these attacks were linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guards and a group later banned by the UK government.

CST attributed the rise in antisemitic incidents to the escalation of conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran starting in late February. CST CEO Mark Gardner emphasized the broad threat posed by antisemitic violence, citing motivations from state actors like Iran as well as extremist ideologies across the political spectrum. British Police Minister Sarah Jones described the figures as "horrifying" and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting Jewish communities. The UK government recently announced a £250 million investment over three years to enhance security at Jewish institutions, including increased police presence at schools, synagogues, and community centers.
