Audi Unveils Q9 SUV Rivaling Mercedes GLS and BMW X7 with Luxury Features

Audi has revealed its new flagship SUV, the Q9, designed to compete with luxury models like the Mercedes GLS and BMW X7. The Q9 and its sportier SQ9 variant are expected to arrive in Israel by late 2026 or early 2027. The vehicle continues Audi's design evolution seen in the Q3 and Q7, featuring a large, elongated profile with advanced lighting technology including digital daytime running lights and OLED signals that project onto the road for enhanced visibility.

Measuring 5.31 meters in length and 2.21 meters in width, the Q9 is significantly larger than the recently launched Q7. It offers two seating configurations: a seven-seat 2+3+2 layout with ISOFIX anchors on the second row, and a six-seat 2+2+2 setup with electrically adjustable captain's chairs and heated seats. The interior boasts high-quality materials such as alpaca wool, Alcantara, and optional Nappa leather, alongside a panoramic sunroof with customizable ambient lighting.

Technology highlights include a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.5-inch curved multimedia touchscreen, and a 12.3-inch passenger display, all running on Android Automotive OS with integrated ChatGPT voice assistant. The sound system is a 4D Bang & Olufsen setup with 22 speakers and 1,360 watts output, including vibrating speakers in the front seats.

Under the hood, the Q9 offers a 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine producing 299 horsepower and 64.2 kgm of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. A micro-hybrid diesel variant with 245 horsepower is available in Europe. The SUV features standard air suspension with adjustable ride height and rear-wheel steering for improved maneuverability. Safety and convenience systems include automatic parking, trailer assist, and an emergency braking system capable of lane changes and roadside stops if the driver is unresponsive.

Audi has equipped the Q9 with large brakes, including 400 mm front discs with six-piston calipers, ensuring strong stopping power. The vehicle also includes practical cargo solutions like aluminum rails for securing luggage, though official cargo volume behind the third row has not been disclosed. Overall, the Q9 represents Audi's entry into the full-size luxury SUV segment with a focus on comfort, technology, and performance.
