Nisco Electric Partners with Halachic Scientific Institute to Develop Sabbath-Compliant Smart Home Technology

In recent years, smart home technology has become integral to modern construction and design. However, for the ultra-Orthodox community and observant Jews, technological advancements often pose complex halachic (Jewish law) challenges, especially concerning Sabbath and holiday observance. The Scientific Technological Institute for Halacha, led by Rabbi Avraham Moshe Halperin, has long worked to research, develop, and adapt technology for Sabbath observance in the most stringent manner.

Recently, Nisco Electric, a leading Israeli lighting and electrical company, joined the list of major firms collaborating with the Institute. The initiative began several months ago when Kobi Shaked, Nisco’s smart home division manager, met with Rabbi Halperin and other senior Institute rabbis and engineers to present Nisco’s advanced smart home systems. The Institute outlined strict halachic-technical standards required to ensure all system components meet the highest levels of Sabbath compliance.

After confirming Nisco’s willingness to implement all necessary adjustments, Rabbi Halperin and engineer David Abrams toured Nisco’s manufacturing plants and high-tech labs. They met with Nisco CEO Eyal Sayer to finalize ongoing supervision and quality control protocols. The team conducted detailed inspections of the smart home and smart electrical product lines, focusing on the original mechanisms to rule out any risk of Sabbath violations such as sensor activation or electronic circuit closure during Shabbat and holidays.

Upon verifying that the systems fully comply with the stringent halachic guidelines and incorporate the required technological safeguards, the Institute granted Nisco Electric its official halachic-technical certification. This partnership marks a significant breakthrough in making advanced smart home technology accessible and permissible for Sabbath-observant households.
