Israeli-Ukrainian Football Talent Michael Wexelman Eyes Ukraine National Team

Michael Wexelman, a 16-year-old defender currently playing for Hapoel Jerusalem, is attracting attention both in Israel and abroad, particularly in Ukraine and Spain. Although relatively unknown in Israeli football circles, Wexelman holds dual Israeli and Ukrainian citizenship and reportedly prefers to represent Ukraine at the international level. His father, Rostislav, confirmed in a Ukrainian media interview that Michael's first choice is to play for Ukraine, but he remains open to Israel if no Ukrainian call-up materializes. Rostislav also revealed recent contact with the Israeli national team coach, who expressed interest in summoning Michael.

Wexelman has been on the radar of top Spanish clubs from the first division, as well as major Israeli teams including Maccabi Tel Aviv, Hapoel Be'er Sheva, and Beitar Jerusalem. Despite these offers, Hapoel Jerusalem, where he has played for four years, is reluctant to release him and is preparing a new contract to secure his future with the club. His father praised Michael's tactical intelligence and playing style, comparing him to Virgil van Dijk and Pau Cobreros, highlighting his left-footed ability and precise long passes of up to 40 meters.

As Wexelman continues to develop in youth leagues, his potential international allegiance remains a key question, with Ukraine currently favored but Israel still in pursuit. The coming months will likely determine which national team he ultimately represents.
