Undecided Voters Could Decide Israel's 2026 Election Amid Security and Cost of Living Concerns

Approximately 10% of Israeli voters remain undecided ahead of the 2026 elections, according to a Channel 12 news poll published on July 28, 2026. This undecided bloc represents a potential swing of eight to ten Knesset seats, which could determine the composition of the next government. Among these voters, 1.3% are considering switching between political blocs, a factor that could influence the crucial 61st seat and final election results.

Security issues and the management of ongoing conflicts top the list of concerns influencing undecided voters, followed by economic factors such as the rising cost of living, cited by 25% of those surveyed. Social division and polarization also weigh heavily for 15% of floating voters, while only 12% say the identity of the bloc leader will sway their vote. Personal security and crime prevention are important to 12% of respondents.

Efforts to unite key political figures into a single large party are currently stalled. Former Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked is working to bring together Benny Gantz, Yuli Edelstein, and others, but disagreements persist, particularly over Gantz's demand to lead the unified list. If the merger fails, Edelstein and Gilad Erdan are expected to announce a joint political path soon, potentially creating a new center-left faction including Hili Tropper and Yoaz Hendel, alongside a center-right wing led by Erdan and Edelstein.

In a notable campaign strategy, Avigdor Lieberman, leader of the Israel Beiteinu party, has chosen to personally manage his party's election campaign rather than hire an external campaign manager. Lieberman, who has led the party for 27 years, believes his internal knowledge of the party's workings will be advantageous.
