Gett Launches Pilot Offering Child Booster Seats in Taxis to Airport in Tel Aviv
As summer travel surges, many Israeli families face a common dilemma when taking taxis to Ben Gurion Airport: whether to carry bulky child booster seats throughout their vacation or risk traveling without proper child restraints. To address this, Gett has initiated a pilot program starting in August in the Tel Aviv area, allowing passengers to book taxis equipped with Cybex booster seats for children aged three and older.
Approximately 350 drivers will participate initially, receiving training on the correct installation and use of the booster seats. The service will operate within Tel Aviv from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., with potential expansion to other regions based on demand. While Israeli law does not mandate child safety seats in taxis, safety organizations strongly recommend their use even on short trips due to the risk of injury in low-speed accidents.
This pilot aims to ease parents' concerns by providing a convenient option to ensure child safety without the inconvenience of transporting booster seats. If successful, Gett plans to broaden the program to more cities and increase the number of equipped taxis available.
