AEK Athens Set to Sign Wolfsburg Midfielder Lubomir Mayer for €6 Million

AEK Athens is close to signing Croatian midfielder Lubomir Mayer from Wolfsburg for a reported fee of 6 million euros, a significant investment compared to their recent offers for other players. Mayer, 28, is expected to sign a four-year contract with the Greek capital club, replacing Kings Kangwa, who is likely to join Panathinaikos soon. Mayer's transfer fee is about 1.5 times higher than what was offered for Hapoel Be'er Sheva's midfielder, and his market value is estimated at 8 million euros, more than double Kangwa's.

Mayer has been playing in Germany since 2023, when Wolfsburg acquired him from Rennes for 25 million euros.
