Trump Defends F-35 Sale to Turkey Amid Netanyahu's Washington Visit

He described the discussions as "good" and emphasized that if no agreement is reached, the US will resume military action. Trump also commented on the F-35 fighter jet deal with Turkey, calling the country a "good ally" and asserting that "no one tells me what to sell." When asked about his alignment with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Iran policy, Trump acknowledged some differences but said their positions are "quite close."

Earlier Monday, Netanyahu departed from Nevatim Airbase aboard the "Kanaf Zion" plane, heading to Washington for a meeting with Trump. Netanyahu called it his eighth meeting with Trump since the president's second term began, highlighting the importance of their discussions, especially regarding Iran. He stressed the need for both determination and wisdom in these complex times and said his mission is to ensure Israel's security and future while honoring the late Senator Lindsey Graham, a strong US supporter of Israel.

Despite the celebratory tone, Israeli officials revealed attempts to schedule the White House meeting earlier in the month were met with reluctance. According to Channel 12 news, the breakthrough came after the US signaled that Netanyahu needed to present tangible progress on at least one front. In response, Netanyahu convened an urgent cabinet meeting to approve the deployment of an international stabilization force to Gaza, despite Hamas not yet disarming. An Israeli source described this move as a significant concession, as it reversed a prior cabinet principle requiring Hamas's disarmament first.

The Prime Minister's Office denied reports of US pressure or conditions tied to the White House visit, calling them "fake news." They stated the decision to bring in the multinational force was made eight months ago as part of a hostage release deal and clarified that this force would not replace the Israeli Defense Forces in Gaza.
