Lebanese Army Discovers Hezbollah Weapons Cache in South Lebanon Pilot Zone

For the first time since the implementation of the pilot model in southern Lebanon under the ceasefire agreement, the Lebanese Army has located a weapons cache belonging to Hezbollah. This discovery occurred in one of the designated pilot areas and was reported on Monday by Kan News. The information was promptly shared with the joint coordination mechanism involving Israel, Lebanon, and the United States. Diplomatic sources view this incident as an indication that the coordination mechanism is effectively operating on the ground. They believe this development could encourage the Lebanese Army to continue its involvement in efforts to disarm Hezbollah in the region.

About a week ago, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) began withdrawing from the pilot zones, which were established as a "sovereignty test" for the Lebanese Army. The goal of this initiative is to assess the Lebanese Army's ability to serve as the sole official armed presence authorized to hold weapons in these areas. According to the understanding between the parties, if Hezbollah violates the terms, the IDF will respond through the coordination cell, which operates under American mediation.
