Yair Golan Criticizes Israel's Iran Strategy as Unrealistic and Harmful

Yair Golan, chairman of the Democratic Party, sharply criticized Israel's handling of its conflict with Iran during the National Security Conference hosted by ynet, Yedioth Ahronoth, and the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS). Golan argued that the war has been poorly managed, with unrealistic goals such as regime change in Iran, which he said has caused significant damage to Israel's interests. He noted that, contrary to Israel's intentions, Iran has actually strengthened its strategic position as a result of the conflict.

Golan emphasized the need for a political initiative with achievable objectives to capitalize on the current military gains. He dismissed the idea of overthrowing the Iranian regime through bombings or a hypothetical Kurdish invasion from northern Iran as unrealistic. According to him, setting such unattainable goals undermines Israel's security and strategic standing.

The former IDF general's comments highlight a call for more pragmatic and politically grounded strategies in addressing the Iranian threat, suggesting that Israel must recalibrate its approach to avoid further strategic setbacks.
