Israeli Man From Itamar Arrested for Defying Extended Administrative House Arrest Order
A resident of the West Bank settlement Itamar was arrested on Sunday outside the Ariel police station after protesting the extension of his administrative house arrest. The new order, signed by Central Command Chief Aviv Blot, requires the young man to remain under house arrest at his parents' home for an additional six months, following a similar order issued six months earlier. The arrest occurred after he refused to comply with the order in its current form.
The young man's parents strongly opposed having him serve the house arrest at their property due to the frequent police visits and disturbances they have endured. The man told officers from the Judea and Samaria District that he could not obey the order because entering his parents' home against their will would constitute trespassing. Police countered that he must comply with the order even if it involves breaking trespassing laws. After receiving no resolution, he went to the Ariel station to demand the cancellation of the restrictions and was subsequently detained.
In a video he shared, the man sharply criticized the use of administrative orders by Aviv Blot, stating that his family has suffered greatly from the police actions against him. He called for a legal hearing to end house arrests and expressed frustration that while Arab attackers allegedly kill Jews with impunity, Jews are persecuted by the Shin Bet.
The family's opposition stems from an incident about a month prior when a police officer entered their home on Shabbat without a search warrant, breaking a door and threatening the family after they refused entry. Additionally, the young man's cousin was wounded by live fire from a police officer near the settlement of Ramat Gilad four months ago.
Attorney Nati Rom from the legal aid organization Honenu, representing the man, condemned the Central Command's unilateral decision to impose the house arrest on an innocent family with young children, causing ongoing disruption without their consent. He vowed to continue fighting against human rights violations in the West Bank.
