Fake Ambulance Emergency Ends in Beachside Proposal
What began like a medical emergency turned into a surprise engagement for David Shukrun and Oneg Ben Shimon. Ben Shimon found Shukrun collapsed in the bathroom, heard him say, “My head hurts, I fell,” and panicked as he warned her, “It’s dangerous, don’t close your eyes!” Paramedics arrived, said “his readings are a little high,” and urged an urgent hospital transfer.
On the way in the ambulance, Ben Shimon noticed they were passing the hospital and feared something was wrong. “I didn’t understand what was happening,” she said in an interview on “HaOlam HaBoker,” adding, “I thought they were basically stealing us.” Instead of going to the emergency room, the ambulance stopped at a beach, where Shukrun got down on one knee, took out a ring and proposed. She said yes.
Shukrun later revealed the whole incident was carefully planned and had been in his mind for a year. He said the elaborate setup, which included an ambulance and realistic-looking medical staff, was made possible with the help of a distant relative who volunteers for Magen David Adom. He stressed that the ambulance crew and participants were off duty and that all necessary approvals were obtained so emergency services were not misused.
Now that the surprise is over, the couple is planning their wedding. Both are of French origin, and Ben Shimon summed up her fiancé’s creativity by saying, “He messes with my head.” They are now looking for an event hall and preparing to celebrate with family and friends.
