Former Israeli Premier League Player Kevin Freiter Becomes Star in U.S. Indoor Soccer League

Kevin Freiter, a former player in Israel's Premier League who played for Maccabi Netanya, Hapoel Ra'anana, and Hapoel Nof HaGalil, has reinvented his career at age 31 by becoming a standout player in the United States' professional indoor soccer league, MASL. Although he did not leave a major mark in Israeli football, Freiter's journey took him through clubs in Jamaica, the U.S., India, and Israel before settling into the fast-paced, physical indoor game.

Indoor soccer in MASL is played on synthetic turf inside a hockey-like arena surrounded by walls, with teams of six players including a goalkeeper. The game features four 15-minute quarters, free substitutions, and a high tempo that demands quick reactions and physicality. Freiter adapted well to this environment, shifting from a traditional striker role to an aggressive, direct attacking player who thrives in tight spaces and chaotic play.

Freiter joined the Baltimore Blast in late 2023 but initially faced work visa issues and a slow start, appearing in only seven regular-season games in 2024/25 with modest statistics. However, his playoff performance hinted at his potential, and by the 2025/26 season, he became a key offensive contributor. He scored 18 goals and assisted nine in the regular season, directly contributing to nearly 22% of Baltimore's goals, ranking 15th in the league.

Baltimore finished second in the regular season and advanced to the MASL semifinals, where they lost in a shortened decisive game to the Milwaukee Wave. Although Freiter did not win major individual awards, he was recognized as one of the league's notable newcomers, marking a significant turnaround from his previous struggles. His physical strength, speed, and direct style have made him a valuable asset in the indoor game, allowing him to successfully reinvent his professional soccer career.
