Israeli Election Committee Requires AI-Generated Campaign Content to Carry Disclosure Labels
Starting Sunday, a new law initiated by the Central Elections Committee for the Knesset mandates that all election campaign materials created or significantly edited using artificial intelligence must include a clear disclosure label. This applies to any visual or audio content produced wholly or partially by digital means, including AI, or content that has been substantially altered through such technologies. The disclosure must be prominently displayed with a special logo or message, ensuring high contrast, legibility, and language matching the content.
The law, enforced by the committee chaired by Judge Noam Solberg, specifies that printed or image-based content must have a label at least 5% of the content's height. For videos, the label must appear throughout the entire duration, while audio content requires the disclosure at both the beginning and end. Failure to comply with these labeling requirements may be considered a legal violation, with responsibility resting on the publisher.
These rules apply to all campaign content published for the first time from the day the law takes effect, adding to existing disclosure obligations under current legislation. The regulation aims to increase transparency around the use of AI in political advertising ahead of the upcoming Knesset elections.
