Hapoel Jerusalem Signs Promising Forward Kenny Lofton Jr. Ahead of New Season

Hapoel Jerusalem, under new head coach Sasha Obradovic, is actively building its roster for the upcoming season and has announced the signing of Kenny Lofton Jr., a player with intriguing potential. Lofton Jr., who went undrafted in the NBA but earned a two-way contract with the Memphis Grizzlies, made a notable impact during his 2023 season, including a standout 42-point, 14-rebound game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Despite this, after two years oscillating between the NBA and the G League, he moved to the Chinese Basketball Association in 2024, where he excelled with the Shanghai Sharks, leading them to a championship and earning league MVP honors.

Lofton Jr.'s basketball journey began as a guard in high school before transitioning to forward positions in college at Louisiana Tech from 2020 to 2022. He set rookie records and was recognized multiple times as Rookie of the Week, eventually leading his team in rebounds and earning first-team conference honors. Internationally, he was a key player for the USA U19 team that won the World Championship in 2021, notably outperforming French star Victor Wembanyama in the final.

Standing 1.98 meters tall, Lofton Jr. is a versatile forward capable of playing both the power forward and center positions. He combines physicality with skill, including mid-range shooting, ball-handling, and playmaking abilities. Jerusalem expects him to diversify their offense and potentially manage the game from the frontcourt. However, this will be his first season in Europe, and some adjustment challenges are anticipated. While his impressive stats in China come from a league known for weaker defenses, his proven talent suggests he can contribute significantly to Obradovic's squad.
