Suspected Antisemitic Stabbing at Manhattan Synagogue Sparks Outcry

Two men, including a Jewish man wearing a kippah, were stabbed outside an Orthodox synagogue in Manhattan's Upper East Side during the night between Thursday and Friday. The suspect, 51-year-old Raoul Morales, was arrested at the scene. Witnesses reported that Morales shouted "Allahu Akbar" before carrying out the attack. Both victims were taken to hospital in stable condition, and authorities have not established any connection between them and the assailant.

New York City Mayor Zoran Mamdani condemned the incident, suggesting mental health issues may have played a role. New York Governor Kathy Hochul expressed shock at what appears to be an attack targeting Jewish residents simply because of their faith. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar criticized Mamdani, accusing him of inciting hostility against Israel and contributing to an environment where Jews become targets. Sa'ar called on Mamdani to stop the incitement and take decisive action to protect the Jewish community.

Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon also condemned Mamdani, warning that his rhetoric endangers Jewish lives in New York, home to the largest Jewish community outside Israel. Danon urged Mamdani to act responsibly and halt his dangerous political campaign, stating that inflaming tensions will only lead to more harm.
