Tel Aviv Pride Parade Triggers Road Closures and Heavy Police Deployment
Roads in central Tel Aviv were closed Friday morning and parking was banned on several streets as the city prepared for the Pride Parade. The march, marking 28 years since it was founded, is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. from Shalag Street near Gordon Beach and the Shlomo Lahat Promenade, continue south to Daniel Street, and end at the main stage in Charles Clore Park.
Police said they completed preparations for the event on Thursday and will deploy more than 1,000 uniformed and plainclothes officers, Border Police troops, volunteers, emergency squad members and municipal inspectors to keep the parade safe. Special units, including the police air unit and maritime police, will also operate during the event.
The parade route and surrounding area will see extensive traffic restrictions, including closures on Rokach Boulevard westbound from Ibn Gabirol, Yarkon Street southbound from Jabotinsky and northbound from Yosef Levi to J.L. Gordon, Herbert Samuel southbound from Shalag to Yekutiel Kaufman, Kaufman northbound from Eilat to Yosef Levi, Nahum Goldman northbound from Eilat and from the Clock Tower to Kaufman, Eilat westbound from Elifelet, Elifelet northbound from Shlomo, and several inner-city streets such as Mappo, Frishman, Trumpeldor, Nes Tziona, Geula, Nehemiah and HaCarmelit.
Police also listed exit routes from Tel Aviv, including Eilat, Jaffa Road, Menachem Begin, HaRakevet, La Guardia, Pinsker, Bograshov, Tchernichovsky, Dizengoff, Kaplan, Jabotinsky, Namir, J.L. Gordon, Shlomo HaMelech, HaNeviim and Shaul HaMelech. Officers warned that additional streets may be closed during the march, parking will not be allowed along the parade corridor, and drivers should avoid the closed roads and use public transportation. Waze will display the closures and access routes on the day of the event.
