Colonel Asher Benishti Assumes Command of Home Front Command Rescue Brigade
Colonel Asher Benishti has taken over as commander of the Rescue Brigade of the Israeli Home Front Command, succeeding Colonel Shlomi Ben Yair, who served in the role for the past two years and will soon begin further studies. The change of command ceremony was held at the Rehavam base, led by Home Front Command Chief Major General Shay Kalper, with participation from commanders, soldiers, and their families.
Benishti, a resident of the Tekuma moshav and graduate of the Wolfson High School in Beersheba, previously commanded the Southern District of the Home Front Command for two years. Major General Kalper praised the outgoing commander, stating that Ben Yair "leaves behind a strong, capable, and ready brigade prepared for any scenario or campaign." He addressed Benishti as a "talented and experienced professional commander, operational and mission-focused, and a man of the people."
Ben Yair reflected on his 22 years of service with the Rescue Brigade, calling it his home and expressing his commitment to honoring the brigade’s fallen soldiers. He wished Benishti success, affirming that he has all the tools and experience needed to lead the brigade forward.
In his remarks, Benishti emphasized the brigade’s core value encapsulated in the phrase "In distress you called, and I will rescue you," highlighting their work without distinction of religion, race, or gender both in Israel and globally. He noted that brigade members are currently engaged in relief efforts in Venezuela following a recent earthquake. Benishti also referenced the approaching Tisha B’Av, marking the destruction of the Temple and a pivotal moment in Jewish history, underscoring the brigade’s commitment to unity and mission.
He expressed gratitude to Ben Yair for his dedicated leadership and mentorship, calling it a great privilege to have worked alongside him through various stages of their military careers. Benishti concluded by thanking Ben Yair on behalf of himself and the entire brigade for his significant impact.
