Government approves new development push for Tiberias

Tiberias Mayor Yossi Nava praised the government’s approval of the Core Cities Development Plan, saying it gives Tiberias and the Lake Kinneret area a central role. He said he had spent the past few months working with various ministries to get the city included in a broader regional strengthening plan.

Nava said Tiberias and its surroundings have suffered badly over the past two and a half years, and that strengthening the city, local business owners and tourism operators was a top priority when he took office. He said the plan is aimed at reinforcing the city’s social and economic resilience, as well as the wider Kinneret region.

According to Nava, the cabinet decision is expected to bring resources, projects and government tools that will be felt in neighborhoods, schools, tourism development and municipal services. He said, “Behind the budgetary and professional clauses stands a clear message, to bring Tiberias more resources, more programs, more projects and more government tools.”

He also said Tiberias is in a construction boom and is establishing new employment zones, which he expects will create many jobs and attract more diverse populations. Nava said he will push in the coming days for another government decision to continue investment in the city and its surroundings, and thanked the government and ministries for their cooperation. He said the municipality will now work to fully implement the Core Cities plan in order to advance Tiberias and its residents.
