Tnuva Ends Cottage Cheese Shortage, Returns to Regular Supply Amid Technical Fixes

Tnuva announced the resolution of the recent cottage cheese shortage that left shelves empty for weeks, confirming a return to regular product supply. Anat Gross-Shon, Tnuva's Deputy CEO, stated that the company aims to build inventory in the coming weeks to meet the high demand for this popular product. The shortage was caused by a malfunction in the automated logistics system at the Alon Tavor dairy plant, where the cottage cheese is produced.

Gross-Shon explained that the repair process required international technical teams due to the specialized nature of the equipment, which is not produced in Israel. Despite challenges posed by the ongoing war and restricted airspace, Tnuva is cooperating with foreign companies for maintenance and remote support, while local technical teams handle routine issues.

The shortage sparked claims that Tnuva was reducing production of government-regulated dairy products with lower profit margins. Gross-Shon strongly denied these allegations, emphasizing that Tnuva has been increasing production of regulated products like milk, white cheese, and cream annually, investing hundreds of millions of shekels in infrastructure and production lines. She noted that Tnuva is the only company maintaining such high volumes of regulated and staple dairy products in Israel, prioritizing these during crises.

Regarding the impact on revenues, Gross-Shon said that cottage cheese has no close substitutes for consumers, so a shortage does not lead to switching to other products like yogurt. She dismissed speculation that Tnuva intentionally cut cottage cheese production, explaining that the production line is dedicated solely to cottage cheese and is operated at full capacity. Furthermore, Tnuva reported a 4.5% increase in cottage cheese production in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025, continuing a multi-year growth trend.

Tnuva’s statements aim to reassure consumers and stakeholders that the company is committed to meeting demand and maintaining supply stability despite recent disruptions.
