Channel 14 News Anchor Dana Varon Expresses Pain Ahead of Gush Katif Evacuation Anniversary

Ahead of the 21st anniversary of the Gush Katif evacuation, Channel 14 news anchor Dana Varon shared her deep emotional pain and anger on Instagram. Posting a video from the evacuation days, she described feeling "angry and torn inside," expressing shock that some people still hold views she blames for the October 7 attacks. Varon called for public awakening and urged followers to share the video widely.

Varon referred to the evacuation, carried out by Ariel Sharon's government in August-September 2005, as a "disengagement from the people, morality, and conscience." She warned that those who do not repent for their involvement in this "horrific partnership" bear responsibility for bloodshed. The evacuation involved forcibly removing about 8,600-9,000 residents from 21 Jewish communities in the Gaza Strip and four in northern Samaria, with significant resistance and painful scenes of crying and conflict.

The evacuation concluded on September 12, 2005, with the withdrawal of Israeli Defense Forces from Gaza. Following the removal, homes, synagogues, and community institutions were demolished. The event remains one of the most traumatic moments in Israel's history, deeply affecting many Israelis, including Varon, who continues to speak out on its legacy.
