Iranian Citizens Express Security Fears Amid US-Iran Tensions and Hope for Change

Amid ongoing exchanges of fire between the United States and Iran, residents of Tehran and Mashhad shared their concerns about the escalating security situation and the potential destruction of vital infrastructure. For 12 consecutive nights, Iranians have faced uncertainty about whether they will wake up to normalcy or an expanded conflict.

Fi'am from Mashhad described a heightened security atmosphere with increased presence of regime forces on the streets. Shirin from Tehran noted the establishment of checkpoints causing fear among citizens and heavy traffic congestion. Alia from Tehran criticized Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, accusing him of abandoning previous agreements and being indifferent to the people's suffering, emphasizing that the regime prioritizes its own comfort over the population’s welfare.

Elirza from Mashhad expressed fear that the conflict could evolve into a prolonged war of attrition, potentially leading to Iran's collapse. Shirin also voiced concerns that the ongoing tensions might end without resolution, resulting in more arrests and executions of civilians accused of espionage or collaborating with hostile states, sometimes merely for photographing damaged areas.

Fi'am stressed his support for any measures that could hasten the regime's end with minimal cost to the Iranian people but warned that expanded military actions could devastate essential infrastructure and worsen civilian life. The interviewed citizens concluded with a message directed at former US President Donald Trump and Israel, urging them to "finish the job with these terrorists," warning that allowing the regime to persist would drag the world into ruin and pollution.
