Iranian Dissident Doubts Regime Fall, Fears Civil War

An Iranian regime opponent speaking to i24NEWS expressed skepticism about the possibility of widespread public uprisings leading to the overthrow of the government. He suggested that the population has grown accustomed to the current situation, and regime supporters are no longer as fearful as they once were, now actively participating in public spaces.

The dissident criticized the Basij militia members, describing them as lacking critical thinking and questioning their motivations. He stated that the core problem lies not with the ruling regime itself, but with the citizens who he believes enable it through their actions and beliefs.

He argued that ordinary citizens are ill-equipped to challenge the regime, citing the effectiveness of state propaganda. The dissident also mentioned a belief among some that Israel would have already resolved the situation if it were solely up to them, but suggested that the US president at the time, Donald Trump, prevented this.

"I doubt this regime will fall," he emphasized, warning of dire consequences if the populace becomes armed, specifically fearing a civil war and the potential proliferation of weapons. He concluded that any successful effort to topple the regime would require organized groups, not spontaneous public action, as ordinary citizens lack the necessary leadership skills for such a complex undertaking.
