Two Palestinians Released Under Restrictions in Gilad Farm Fire Investigation

Two Palestinians arrested on suspicion of causing the fire at Gilad Farm over the weekend were released Thursday under restrictive conditions. The fire, which broke out on Saturday and destroyed 13 homes, left 113 residents homeless. Initial police statements suggested the suspects were involved in arson, but this was later corrected to involvement in causing the fire, described as a clerical error by authorities.

Police investigations indicate the fire may have started from a cigarette thrown from a passing vehicle. At the time, around 150 vehicles passed the road near the site, with approximately 100 having open windows. Investigators continue to analyze evidence from surveillance cameras to clarify the circumstances.

The Gilad Farm community and the Shomron Regional Council consider the fire a deliberate act of arson. Following the arrests, the community called on law enforcement to thoroughly complete the investigation and impose the severest legal penalties, labeling the incident as terrorism. Residents are now focused on recovery efforts, rebuilding, and supporting families who lost their homes, expressing gratitude for the support from the Israeli public.
