Experts Warn Iran Could Assemble Uranium Enrichment Plant at Heavily Fortified Mount Makuh Site Soon

Israeli intelligence sources estimate that Iran has transferred thousands of centrifuges to the heavily fortified nuclear site beneath Mount Makuh, located about 220 kilometers south of Tehran and just 2 kilometers from the well-known Natanz facility. Satellite images confirm renewed activity at the underground complex, which is buried approximately 100 meters below granite mountains rising 1,300 meters above it.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump recently threatened a strong and imminent military strike against the site, underscoring its strategic importance. David Albright, a leading expert on Iran's nuclear program, warned that within three months Iran could assemble a uranium enrichment plant there. He stressed the urgency of addressing the site either diplomatically or militarily, cautioning that failure to act would increase the risks and costs involved.

Mount Makuh is considered Iran's most secure nuclear facility, built to withstand attacks and shielded by massive granite formations. Unlike Natanz, which Israel previously targeted during conflicts, Mount Makuh has not yet been attacked, partly due to the complexity of such an operation. Albright warned that if left unchecked, Iran could strengthen its air defenses and missile systems, making any future attack more costly. Despite ongoing international concerns, Iran appears unlikely to allow inspections or share information about activities at Mount Makuh, reducing the prospects for a diplomatic resolution.
