New Halachic Study Edition Inspires Torah Learning on Tisha B'Av Among Religious Communities
A new halachic publication titled "Chok L'Yisrael for Tisha B'Av" has been released, generating excitement across the religious Jewish world. This special edition, compiled by Rabbi Pinchas Ginzburg and published by the "Chok L'Yisrael" project founded by Rabbi Mordechai Zev Halberstam of Sanz, offers a curated selection of permissible Torah study texts for Tisha B'Av, a day traditionally restricted from learning except for certain topics. The booklet includes Mishnah, Talmud, halacha, and aggadah related to the destruction of the Temple and the fast day, arranged thoughtfully for all ages and backgrounds, from children to scholars and from Hasidim to non-Hasidim.
The edition is available in both Hebrew and Yiddish, the latter from the Kahana edition. Rabbi Moshe Sternbuch, a leading halachic authority, praised the initiative highly after reviewing the booklet, emphasizing its importance in preventing the waste of time on Tisha B'Av and encouraging meaningful Torah study within halachic boundaries. He sent a special letter of blessing to the "Chok L'Yisrael" global project, commending their efforts and expressing hope for more beneficial publications.
Other prominent rabbis and tzaddikim have also endorsed the initiative, highlighting the spiritual merit of daily Torah study as established by the Arizal and the unique value of maintaining this practice even on Tisha B'Av. The project aims to inspire the entire Jewish community to engage in study focused on the themes of destruction, redemption, and the rebuilding of the Temple, fostering spiritual elevation and joy even on this solemn day.
