Deputy Minister Almog Cohen Considers Launching His Own Political Party

Deputy Minister Almog Cohen has raised questions about his political future within his current frameworks. In an interview on Channel 14, Cohen hinted at his plans for the upcoming elections, stating, "I might establish a party under my leadership." This announcement follows a turbulent period in his political career marked by public disputes and shifting alliances.

Cohen first gained public attention as a social activist in the Negev and as the founder of the "Barel Unit," aimed at enhancing personal security in southern Israel. He was elected to the Knesset representing Itamar Ben-Gvir's Otzma Yehudit party and appointed Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Office. However, his relationship with Ben-Gvir has been fraught with sharp disagreements and public clashes, resulting in Cohen's removal from Knesset committees and party meetings.

The tension culminated in Cohen effectively withdrawing from active participation within Otzma Yehudit, becoming a relatively independent figure within the coalition. Against the backdrop of recent political shifts and reports, Cohen appears to be considering leveraging his popularity, especially in the southern and Negev regions, to form a new political force under his own leadership.
