Israeli President Herzog Highlights IDF's Commitment to Military Justice and Ethical Conduct During Visit to Military Courts

Israeli President Isaac Herzog and his wife Michal visited the military legal complex at Camp Goral in Beit Lid on Wednesday. During their visit, they toured the district military courts, received briefings on their operations, and met with senior officials from the military prosecution. Herzog and his wife also observed a session of the "Integrated Court," a rehabilitative program that offers soldiers who have been criminally charged for certain offenses a second chance for rehabilitation and continued service.

The visit was accompanied by key figures in the military justice system, including Orly Markman, President of the Military Court of Appeals, Major General Itai Ophir, the Military Advocate General, and Brigadier General Yuval Yamin, Chief Military Police Officer. Herzog emphasized that even amid intense conflict on multiple fronts, the Israel Defense Forces strictly uphold the fundamental rules of military law, command, and ethical conduct. He expressed gratitude to the military judiciary and prosecution for their dedication, noting their focus on the individual soldier and their support system despite the challenges.

Orly Markman highlighted the military justice system's dual focus on punishment and innovative rehabilitative processes, noting the Integrated Court's collaboration with command, welfare, personnel, prosecution, and defense bodies. Major General Itai Ophir stressed the military prosecution's role in enabling the IDF to fulfill its security missions lawfully and effectively, especially after nearly a thousand days of continuous combat. He affirmed their commitment to upholding the rule of law within the military framework.
