Former Government Coordinator Kamil Abu Rokan Joins Ex-IDF Chief Gadi Eizenkot’s Yisra Party

The Yisra party, led by former IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot, announced on Wednesday the addition of retired Major General Kamil Abu Rokan, former Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories, to its ranks. Abu Rokan, a Druze resident of Usfiya, has served in key security roles over four decades, including deputy coordinator during the Second Intifada, head of the Civil Administration, and head of the land crossings authority. Eizenkot praised Abu Rokan as an experienced security figure with strong values and highlighted their past cooperation when Eizenkot commanded a brigade in Judea and Samaria and Abu Rokan was governor of Tulkarm. He described Abu Rokan as a model of Israeli-Druze partnership committed to a secure, democratic Jewish state.

Abu Rokan’s extensive career includes three decades in the IDF, followed by roles in the Foreign Ministry, Defense Ministry, and Prime Minister’s Office, leading national security projects. He returned to military service in 2018 as a Major General and government coordinator in the territories, retiring in 2021 after leading joint efforts among political, military, and security agencies against Palestinian terrorism. He also chaired the Druze Heritage Center in Israel. Holding degrees in political science, Middle Eastern history, and international relations, Abu Rokan said he joined Yisra out of deep trust in Eizenkot’s ability to restore unity and solidarity in Israel and to address security challenges. He emphasized his commitment to tackling long-standing issues faced by the Druze community and strengthening their historic alliance with Israel.

Abu Rokan joins a growing list of prominent figures in Yisra, including former Shin Bet chief Yoram Cohen, economist Shaul Meridor, former ministers Matan Kahana and Orit Farkash-Hacohen, and other notable leaders. The party continues to gain momentum in polls, recently tying with Likud at 21 seats according to the Midgam Institute, with another poll placing Yisra ahead at 24 seats. Abu Rokan’s addition is seen as a significant step in reinforcing the Israeli-Druze alliance amid Yisra’s rising political influence.
